Your Brain On Porn | Evolution has not prepared your brain for today’s Internet porn

There is an epidemic of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men under 30. This was extraordinarily rare 20 years ago. There is increasing evidence that the use of high speed internet porn is the cause of ED in men of all ages.

The cause isn’t just some desensitizing of sexual stimuli but actual changes in the brain effecting dopamine and it receptors. Additionally, it is effecting the signals that stimulate male sexual function.

Dopamine release is triggered by wanting something not the fulfillment of that desire. Traditional porn was done in print or with erotic dancing and desire was limited to several images or people. The internet allows users to want unlimited images as easy and as quick as a click. Many users clicking through 50 images in fast succession before they reach fulfillment.

Each click triggers a dopamine release. This is a highly amplified dopamine cycle and it ends up greatly reducing dopamine receptors. This causes a cascading effect on the brain that eventually impairs the signals from the brain that drive male sexual function.

So it is not porn but high speed internet porn that is causing the epidemic of ED among young men and older men also.

The good news is that it is possible to “reboot” the brain. The following website goes into more detail on the biomechanics of the mechanism and on the reboot process.
